Everyone has heard of golf words. Each discipline in life, or sport has their share of these colorful metaphors. Personally I have heard of sewing words (The result of getting the project all sewn together and then have to tear out all you've done!), and even baking words (no explanation needed there, I'm sure.). Well, today I discovered computer words - again.
Since this computer came to live at our house (after the death of our former computer) it has spent most of the time aggravating and otherwise driving my gentle, patient, soul beyond the point of distraction. I've spent more time fixing or re-installing programs than actually working on the thing!
So, what has it actually done to warrant this frustration and yes, even hate? Simply by allowing me to seem to fix let's say the Reader program, music program, or sundry other similar items - and then allowing those programs to either totally disappear or return to some prior setting or worse yet make the program totally corrupted and unworkable.
I am a patient person, but when you install your tunes and a reader program only to have them disappear or totally stop working all together it can be a very big frustration at the least. If I'm honest the number of times this has happened is well over 20 just in this last two weeks alone.
Remember, I am a patient person - well, at least I WAS one!
So, why am I using those dread computer words? Not simply because of the daily aggravation surely. No, it is that, and because this blessed thing always seems to break down when everything else around us is falling apart. It is that proverbially last straw way too often these days.
I think I need a vacation.

Though it has been frustrating, I have learned to use some non-regular program software (Foxit for my work on PDFs)and am navigating through the problems with this nasty computer any way!
We're actually looking at getting a used MAC Mini at the moment and I am really excited since I love MACs!
I'll keep everyone up on the changes as they happen...there's at least HUGE positives coming down the road cause I'm making headway!! (At least until the new(er) computer is in place!)
Your computer sounds like it has gremlins inside it! I have been using Foxit for some time. It seems less cumbersome than adobe reader.
Linda,
I believe it does have gremlins! :-) This thing has been a pain since the beginning, but I can't complain too much because I am learning things - like about Foxit. After struggling with a constantly disappearing reader, I finding easier programs to use with a little research.
And of course, I have that MAC Mini on the horizon which makes it easier to deal with as well!
I agree. Computer problems can be a source of annoyance because today you just have to use computers most of the time. I heard MAC has fewer issues :)
Bax,
I am presently looking for a good, used, MAC Mini. I'm done with PCs. They can be MORE than a real pain!
I know what you mean. You deserve a fast and easy to use computer!
I just recently moved from my old, crusty and worn out desktop to my new Dell Studio 17 laptop. The switch was apparent, and I'm loving every minute of it.
On a side note, I'm a huge fan of your style of writing.
Having a new(er) computer is way more exciting even than getting a new car. It's been quite a while since I've gotten either one (actually, never had a brand-new car), but at least there's something to look forward to. I hope your computer woes are over by now.
Did you get a vacation?! I hope the new computer has resolved all your issues(no fun)~
I hope you have all the wrinkles ironed out by now!
