Lovely, soft and warm
Touch the fuzzy head
Feel the wonder.
Count the moments,
Savor the whole.
Watch the stretching,
Growing strength.
All the premieres,
All the aches
Mini or major
They are pains for all.
All still tell the tales,
The softness still exists.
Now it emanates from
The heart, the soul
That.is.the.very.best.gift.
Except our own thoughts, there is nothing absolutely in our power. ~ Rene Descartes

These Days
The season of anticipation is one I adore...but not for the presents, nor the constant Christmas music that haunts the the halls of our local mall. The season holds something that not many others hold. Hope.
At the beginning of the dark and sometimes snowy season lies the hope of spring time, and a hope that people and families will look at what has been lost in fighting and work toward making that thing we call reconciliation. It doesn't always happen. Sometimes Uncle John is still as obnoxious, and that cousin might stay angry, but we all have a vision of a family together at the Holidays whether it comes off or not.
So, we all clean like crazy, and look for that perfect gift that will make someone see that will be excitement and fill all with that warm feeling. Know understand, I'm not mocking the traditions that we know as Christmas today. It holds special gifts for many, but not for me. Christmas for me means so much more than things you can buy or make, or even the snow that covers the gray of this season for us here in the North.
Christmas to me is... The time that time to gaze out the window with someone special and enjoy the cars not flying as fast they do courtesy of the slick roads; sharing tea or coffee with a friend and dwelling on the warmth it provides after shoveling; watching the birds feed at the many trays and feeding stations I have all over my yard; calling people to catch up with their lives and sharing a smile and sometimes a giggle, you get the picture! I could honestly go on forever so I will finish with the simple thought of time as a gift. I will be taking time to enjoy and revel in the time to share, to talk, and to reflect on life in general. And to share smile - just a small smile to pass on to the world.

Fall in My Garden
This cooler weather is inspiring for me. I often sit on the patio and enjoy most mornings, now. The birds are flocking and along the fence every morning there is a line of sparrows waiting their turn to dip and drink from our bird bath. It reminds me of kids waiting for the bathroom.
Though the garden isn't as pretty as in the spring and early summer some flowers are still blossoming. The cosmos look great, and the asters are beginning to bloom. But I must admit there is much in the garden that looks quite ragged. But that too gives a beauty of its own. The tall brown stems of long dead lilies are now the perches for the goldfinches and sparrows.
The sweet autumn clematis is beginning at the very top to break out in lovely small white blossoms. It covers the trellis at the back of the garden and has often been called the garden "ice cream cone" by neighbors because the blossoms seem to balloon from the top down. There the littlest of my garden birds congregate under the leaves and flowers safe from the local cooper's hawk as it makes its daily pass over the yard.
The fall can be so restive and quiet here in my garden world. It's truly a place to escape as the days speed by. Here I can almost stop my world and take time to inhale the garden that nature creates all around me.

Hey, Look at Me! I'm a Grandma!
I love being a grandmother. Okay, everyone is trying to always be "young," but I don't want to be any age other than the one I am. I have never had so much fun in my life! With my own kids I was Mom. Now, I get to be a play partner, a reader, and someone who loves to tell story after story! I can be silly and play all I want to, and that is the best gift I have ever received.
I survived my kids, three rowdy, and hyper-active boys. It wasn't always fun, but I have great memories and pictures in my mind of each at various times through their first years. Teenagers are another thing all together, though. But I loved them - even through a lot of impossible times. But with my grand kids, it is so different!
I love being grammy...I love being a kid right along with my four, very special "grand"children.
